The energies fell out of me last week (I blame my forthcoming obsession with funnels, which soon you can read). Nevertheless, today I went to Costa, had one (1) muffin and one (1) iced flat white, and wrote out what I could care to of the final pieces of this world and puzzle.

You made it! At this point you have everything you need to start play. Week 5 (and beyond) is all about having fun. You can do whatever you like this week to help round out the setting, but try to complete at least three of the following tasks.

I think I did three? Let’s find out.

Sketch out the geography of the continent, or even the whole world. At the very least jot down a rough idea of what lies to the North, South, East, and West of the area you have drawn.

  • NORTH — heathland and “forest”. I grew up near the New Forest, and as such I can’t run a game without large sections of acid grassland. Always more gorse. It is a horrible day and you are a beautiful gorse.
  • EAST — ports and urban centres. Wereham is in unspecified Dorset style region (Hardy’s literary Wessex tbh). Go east to find the big smoke. Urban fantasy by way of knowing where the bigger conurbation is.
  • SOUTH — coastal town. Which? Tbh I might go all in on my Kinstow setting for that. More details coming soon!
  • WEST — not!Cornwall. Moors x peninsulas.

Outline other worlds/planes the characters could visit and identify a few places, items, or spells that will transport them there

I’m expressly not going to define the “how to”: for I can see it being more interesting for my play style to have the players research (read: design and develop) these links themselves.

  • The Barrowbled Dreamscape — a long flat grey land accessed through tomb dreams
  • Mercurial Astral Projection — another non-physical space where the players can be challenged on this level. I am calling the “vampires” that players will be something along the lines of “sun-pact” or something. As such, it’d be cool to get as close to the sun as poss.

Create some high level non-player characters and villains, including their DNA.

DIABOLOS, MD.

  • almost-pantomime villain, definitely not inspired by Dr. Diablerie from a Yahtzee Croshaw novels nope
  • D — high collar, starched
  • N — audience
  • A — wants to gain credibility and then to come clean about vampirism

GUSTAV MAY

  • the only human member of the insect cult
  • D — thin clothes; goatee
  • N — balance and patience
  • A — keep the vampires infighting

MOTHER CHAOS

  • an incarnation of true divinity
  • D — think Gillian Anderson styled as Dolly Parton
  • N — ambiguity: detail is the death of belief
  • A — she has no agenda and will FIGHT to keep it that way

Generate some events and rumors from other lands that the characters might hear.

For some reason, I wrote this as NOUNS VERBED. Ima keep them that way.

  1. AUTHORITY SECONDED
  2. FUEL REPLICATED
  3. SWORD FORGOT
  4. HARE REBORN
  5. DAY ABDICATED
  6. LOVER HANGED

Props if anyone works out the reference to these.
